Meet Professor Stephen Langley

Professor Langley’s career has been defined by innovation, dedication, and exceptional patient care. Highlights include:

Clinical Excellence: Professor Langley has spent his career improving the awareness, diagnosis and treatments for prostate cancer. Meticulously recording the outcomes of over 6,000 patients treated by brachytherapy with 20 year follow up he has demonstrated outstanding clinical outcomes with a fraction of the side effects associated with radical surgery.

He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Surrey in 2025, in recognition of his pioneering contributions to prostate cancer detection and treatment, and his leadership in advancing research and care across Surrey and beyond. He has received a Gold Clinical Excellence Award from the NHS in recognition of outstanding clinical care over many years.  He has also been awarded the Golden Cystoscope Award for an outstanding contribution to British Urology from his peers.

Research Excellence: Published groundbreaking studies on prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment, including the development of the transperineal prostate biopsy and 4D Brachytherapy.

Clinical Leadership: Established the UK’s largest prostate cancer treatment centre, treating over 1,000 new patients annually.

Community Impact: Spearheaded the creation of the Stokes Centre for Urology through a £6M fundraising effort working with the Prostate Project, of which he is a Trustee.  The state of the art building, received the 2020 RICS Healthcare Building of the Year award.
